January is School Board Recognition Month and JISD is celebrating its trustees for their dedication and commitment to the district and its students. The theme of this year’s School Board Recognition Month is Locally Elected, Community Connected, which highlights the connection between school trustees and their communities. School board members are the largest group of locally-elected officials in the state. The JISD School Board will be honored during its January meeting that is scheduled for Tuesday, January 16th at 6:00pm. Dan Troxell, executive director of the Texas Association of School Boards, applauded the efforts of volunteer trustees in providing leadership and good governance so that school districts can focus on educating the 5.4 million public schoolchildren in their care. “Texas school boards are so important because they bring a deep understanding of the needs and aspirations of their local communities to their role,” Troxell said. “Boards lead their districts by providing oversight, setting goals, overseeing the budget, and selecting and evaluating the superintendent. These volunteers serve for the betterment of their communities.” Board members serving Jourdanton ISD are: Vance Jupe, Vice-President,Kristi Schulte, Trustee,Phillip Netardus, Secretary,Kendall Schorsch, Trustee,Greg Vyvlecka, Trustee,Barbara Peeler, President and Nicole Rakowitz, Trustee Learn more about school board service at tasb.org.

The JJHS Robert Rutkowski Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society chose for their Fall Semester 2023 Community Based Service Project to donate money to ACCEPT 2023. The students put together a bake sale located at Chile B on Saturday December 9th. We served sweets and treats from 7am until 11am when we sold out of all of the goods. The students gave $2,000 to ACCEPT Board President Henry and Josie Sanchez along with Tonya Netardus today. The Sanchez's addressed the students letting them know that their mission was to provide things like blankets for the elderly. We are proud of our student's and proud to be involved with ACCEPT.

Jourdanton ISD is aware of the email circulating that involves a terroristic threat. JISD is in contact with JPD who is also in contact with the FBI and all local authorities. We DO NOT believe this is a CREDIBLE THREAT. FBI has now determined and are stating that these are "clearly hoax threats". Our students and staff’s safety are of the utmost importance so although we do not believe this is credible, there will be an increased presence of law enforcement today.
