Wow! A new school year with lots of challenges ahead! Exciting! Jourdanton High School has seen a lot of growth this year. We have the oil industry moving in and we have a lot of transfers from other district coming to our school. We will be larger than we have ever been this year with over 400 students in the high school. We will also have 3 foreign exchange students. We will have more student diversity and that is good for students. What a good challenge to have. I have the responsibility of discipline for our school and the students know me and know how I enforce the Code of Conduct so it should be a good year. My heart is with this district and helping students be the best they can be. It is, and has been, a great place to work. We have good people here. I look forward to seeing everyone around on campus, stop and say Hi!
Parents, just a reminder that driving students need to get a parking permit to be able to park their cars on campus. I will need a copy of their driver's license and their insurance also. We may have to limit parking on campus to Sr. and Jr. because of the construction going on at the band hall. The parking lot is being used by that construction so we have less spaces to park. As your students come in to get permits, and as we review those already with permits we will let them know the parking situation. It will be monitored well. Students need to be in dress code when they come to school, including their hair lengths and belts on their pants in the belt loops. I hope your summer days were filled with fun and relaxation and your students are ready to learn more exciting things in the new school year. The STAAR Test will begin this year. It is a more academically rigorous test including readiness standards for college. Freshmen will be taking these tests in English, Algebra I, World Geography, and Biology. Sophomores, Juniors, and the remaining Seniors will be taking the TAKS Test. So, testing this year at all levels will be seen.
Teachers are excited about being back at school and getting into their classrooms and extracurricular activities are already in full swing.
I encourage parents to come visit with us at Jourdanton High School and see the good things we do for students. Any questions you have we will do our best to answer. Come See Us!
