Welcome to Third Grade!

I am very excited about this school year! I look forward to getting to know all of my new students.

I have 21 years of teaching experience in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. This is my 11th year in Jourdanton. I have an Associate's Degree in Business Administration from Cental Texas College, a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Cameron University in Oklahoma, and I received my masters degree in Reading from Texas A&M - Commerce.

I teach reading, language arts, and social studies.

I love teaching students. I love watching their faces light up when they learn something new. We will learn to write in cursive, how to write in complete sentences, what to do when others say mean things to us, and how a community works. Third grade students are moving from learning HOW to read to Reading to Learn. We read in class quite a bit. We will be reading a variety of genres. Research has shown that reading should be a lifetime event. The more students read, the more vocabulary they have to use. Reading helps in all other subjects. I encourage parents to read with their children at home.

Please check the planner daily for assignments and important notes. A third grade newsletter is on the Elementary section of the school website. The newsletter will have concepts of study, spelling words, and upcoming events.

We will have spelling tests most Fridays.

Parents may reach me by phone at 830-769-2121 or by e-mail at hbailey@jisdtx.us .  My conference time is 9:00 - 9:30.
