Welcome to Jourdanton Elementary where we are wild about learning!
One of the most important areas of learning is about our relationships with others. This begins with a program called Second Step which is taught in the grade levels Pre-K through second. Second Step focuses on recognizing feelings in ourselves and others and on developing empathy for others' feelings. This program is taught in the classrooms by the teachers. The grade levels third through fifth come to the counselor's classroom for a program called Steps to Respect, a bullying prevention program. The students learn what bullying is, how to stand up to a bully assertively, how to report bullying and how to use the power of the bystander in a positive way. The result of these two programs is a campus where students feel safe and can better focus on their academic learning.
As the counselor, I assist the students and parents with social and academic concerns. My telephone number is 769-2121, ext. 245.
Our thoughts become words, our words become actions, and our actions become our destiny.
