"A Salute to the Yorktown Flash"
May 05, 2010
Norman Borth, JHS Track Coach, was recently recognized at the start of the Region IV - 2AA Track Meet in San Antonio. Norman grew up in Yorktown, Texas, where he attended school and participated in numerous athletic events. Coach Borth graduated in 1963 and ran track at Yorktown High, where he set and held the regional record for the 220 yard dash for 22 years. He also qualified for the state track and field meet and finished third in the 220 yard dash.
Coach was hired by the Jourdanton ISD in 1968 and started his forty-two year career as the longest serving track coach in the history of Region IV. During Borth's 42 year career coaching track at JHS, his track teams have won 25 varsity girls district championships and 16 varsity boys district championships. Coach Borth has coached 33 state boys and girls qualifiers and 5 state champions boys and girls.
Norman has also been the Region IV - 2A track and field director for six years and a state UIL track and field official for the last 13 years. Coach Borth is married to Wanda Borth and they have three sons and four grandchildren. Coach Borth's contribution to the athletes of Jourdanton High and to the history of high school track and Region IV is truly impressive. A four decade career with a total of 41 district championships (including this year's Varsity Boys District Championship) is unsurpassed in Region IV. No other coach in the history of Region IV has served longer than Coach Borth.
We are truly proud and appreciative of the hard work and dedication that Coach Borth has given to Jourdanton High School. WAY TO GO NORM!!!!!
