Basketball Teams Dedicate Season to Cancer Awareness

November 20, 2009

COACHES VS CANCER

This season, the Indians and Squaws have dedicated their efforts on the court to raising cancer awareness.  As part of that dedication, the basketball teams will be collecting money at home games to donate to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Research Center.  Many families throughout the community have made the trip to Houston to obtain help from this world-class cancer research center and the teams feel that the money they raise will be well-spent at such a facility.  Information regarding M.D. Anderson will be available at home games and can be gathered by visiting the M.D. Anderson web site at

http://www.mdanderson.org/.

HONORARY TEAM CAPTAINS

We would like to invite the community to be part of our cancer-fighting mission as well.  To that end, we would like to extend an invitation to the families of loved ones who have lost the fight against cancer and current cancer survivors to stand as honorary captains at each of our home games this season.  If you are interested, please use the schedule above to determine which game or games at which you may be interested in participating and e-mail Coach Wadsworth at jwadsworth@jourdantonisd.net.

CANCER AWARENESS NIGHT - JANUARY 22

Lastly, we would like to invite the community to the home game against Three Rivers on January 22, where the Indians and squaws would like to recognize cancer survivors and families of cancer victims at our Cancer Awareness Night.  Between the Squaws and Indians games, we would like to ask those in attendance to stand and be recognized, as we put a face to the determination to overcome this deadly disease.  The sophomore class is also planning a meal for the community in conjunction.  More details on the meal will be posted later.
